Eternal Messages
It is perhaps a poignant coincidence that amidst the current spate of festivals we have Eid-e-Milad and Easter, back-to-back. While Easter marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ, Milad is, interestingly, both the birth and the death anniversary of the Prophet Mohammed. These founders of two major world religions were also the sources of inspiration for much civilisational inflorescence. It is perhaps no coincidence that both Christ and the Prophet are part of a single historical, cultural and ethical continuum, the Abrahamic tradition.
In our troubled times, ravaged as our world is by hatred and fear, we would do well to remember this historical fact. Regardless of our individual religious affiliations (or lack thereof), the messages that these Messengers brought to humankind (which, at their core, were one), remain deeply resonant and continually relevant. One need not be Christian or Muslim to understand, appreciate and celebrate (in every sense of the word) the festivals of Milad or Easter.
Happy festive season to all.
